Terrafugia TF-X: The Real Flying Car
You may want to know more about an earlier Terrafugia model
via this link:
http://afkra.blogspot.com/2011/02/flying-car.html
Terrafugia, the Woburn,
MA, company developing the
Transition flying car, has plans for a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) sibling.
The proposed Terrafugia TF-X would be a tilt-rotor flying machine that would
take off and land like a helicopter. Instead of a runway, the TF-X could use a
helipad or parking lot. That’s important because Terrafugia’s devices aren’t so
much flying cars as roadable aircraft that take you from the airport to your
destination a few miles away. The closer you land to your destination, the
better. Don’t sell your Cessna 400 just yet. The flying car is a decade away
and will likely cost on the high side of a half-million dollars. Maybe a
million.

Top 10 Biggest Meteor Strikes In History
By Jeff Danelek
Our beloved blue planet gets pelted with debris from space
all the time but, since most of it burns up or break apart in the atmosphere,
it’s usually not a problem. Even when one does make it to the ground, they are
rarely much larger than a small rock, minimizing the damage they’re capable of
inflicting. Then, of course, there is that once-in-an-eon occasion where
something very very large makes it through intact, and this can really do some
damage. Fortunately, such hits are extremely rare, but they are worth noting,
if only to serve as reminders of the power of the stars to undo the normal
routine here on Earth, with little more than a few minutes’ warning. So where -
and when - did these monsters hit? Let’s take a look at the geological records...

11 Phone Terms Your Kids Will Never Know
by Sam Greenspan
I was talking to a friend recently and mentioned 10-10-220.
My guess is that a lot of people reading this have no idea what that is. For a brief window in the '90s, companies found some phone system loophole. If you dialed their special number - 10-10-220 is the one that stuck in my head, but there were others - you would bypass your own long distance carrier for one that was theoretically cheaper. As we were talking about it, I realized how confusing that speech would be in the future. Not because of the convoluted mess of numbers like 10-10-220 but because I'd also have to explain the concept of "long distance." I put together this list of 11 phone terms, besides long distance and 10-10-220, your kids will never know.

Dumbest Criminals of All Time (Part 4)
Concluding this 4-parts series with another 18
criminals worth mentioning. This is the final of a 4-part series, a total of
108 criminals in all....
After being arrested for attempted armed robbery,
Christopher R. Voorhis, pictured, admitted that he was intoxicated, had a knife
and was bent on stealing beer from a BP station, according to the report of his
court appearance in Ocala, Fla. But Voorhis, 26, doesn't understand why the store owner beat him with a pipe, saying,
"I was just trying to steal a beer, not money." The owner who wielded the pipe says that Voorhis did demand money. Voorhis says he was beaten about six times on his body, chased out of the store
and the owner clobbered his car a few times, so hard that an airbag popped out. Seems Vooris thinks robbers should only be pursued indoors saying, "I
understand the man was upset, but he could've stopped when I left the
store" and "I thought he went overboard."

The Man Who Fought In WWII With A Sword And Bow
By Emily Upton
Running into battle armed with a broadsword, bow, and quiver
of arrows was perfectly acceptable if you were fighting in the Hundred Years’
War or fending off some orcs on Middle Earth. But when it comes to World War
II, such medieval weaponry looks like child’s play next to the technology of
the time. A sword isn’t the most likely of defences against rifles and
tanks. However, for John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill, nicknamed “Mad
Jack,” there was nothing he’d rather arm himself with than a trusty sword and
bow.

Another 20 Life Hacks For Your Living
5 Most Mysterious Places On Earth
1. Easter Island
Off the coast of Chile,
Easter Island doesn’t boast any stories of
people disappearing or black magic. It is, however, the home of these wicked
warrior statues, some up to 50 feet high. The real question about this island
is who carved them and how they got there. What mysterious force do you think
made them appear? I guess the only thing to do is to go ask one of the 200
native people living on the island. My bet, though, is that communicating with
them might prove fruitless considering there is virtually no knowledge of who
they are originally.

The Multi-Colored Crater Lakes Of Kelimutu
Mount
Kelimutu, with its
multi-colored crater lakes, is the amazing natural phenomenon in central Flores
Island of Indonesia. Kelimutu is a passively degassing stratovolcano capped by
three crater lakes containing exotic fluids and whose physico-chemical expressions
have changed dramatically through the years. Three crater lakes are located on the eastern summit of
Kelimutu. Each of the lakes has a distinctive physical structure, a unique
geochemical and hydrothermal regime, and a particular historical sequence of
color changes controlled by changes in physico-chemical conditions. The visitor is never quite sure what color the lakes will be
when they reach the top as they vary significantly. Unlike other crater lakes
where the color variation can be predicted, this is not the case with these
three lakes. The colors that you can see here are blue, green and black (and
they predominate) yet the lakes also change to white, red and blue too.
