In response to the article 8 Cases Of Selfies Prior To Death
Tragic images of people in their final moments.
For a millennia, the last words spoken by people before their death have been considered to be of high importance or significance, as they represent the final mark they leave on the living world. Today, with the prevalence of technology and media, it’s not wholly uncommon for a person’s final moments to be captured visually. Live broadcasts, mobile phone pictures and even photos taken by the victims themselves have all managed to capture people in the final seconds of life. A high number of these occurrences have taken place with regards to celebrities or other famous figures, who are more likely to have a camera on them at any given time. In certain bizarre cases, it was actually the taking of the photo that caused the death in the first place, granting an even greater sense of melancholy to the resulting image.
This list takes a look at 17 truly haunting photos that chronicle the very final moments of people’s lives, whether they were aware of that fact or not. Please note that some of these entries may contain disturbing content, and may upset more sensitive readers.

The Only Humans To Die In Space

Soyuz and Salyut Docking in Space (Artist’s Rendering).
There exists only one video of what followed Soyuz 11’s violent decompression. In it, we see two men sprawled over white sheets, helpless on the dead grasses of the Kazakh steppe. Their faces are obscured by the sweating, heaving medics huddled over them, performing the kiss of life, frantically trying to save them: but their essences had been sucked out in a silent flash. Their skin is as gray and lifeless as the ground they lay upon. All crewmen were lost.

Crash Tests: Why They Don’t Work In The Real World

Original source : http://www.autofreaks.com

Have you ever wondered why ‘crash tests’ like the one being conducted above are only done up to a certain speed? I mean, don’t you find it a tad ironic that while modern day cars are able to reach speeds in excess of 200kmh, and full-blown supercars are now capable of speeds that hover around the absolutely ridiculous 400kmh mark, yet crash tests are still carried out only up to around a paltry 60kmh?

A while back, Oddee presented a list of the 20 Most Amazing Coincidences. The article proved to be so popular that we're doing it again, folks! In fact, I was about to present my idea of doing another list of coincidences when my editor beat me to the punch and emailed me asking if I would like to do a list of – you guessed it – coincidences! (Insert the theme from The Twilight Zone here). Are they divine intervention? Fate? We might not agree on how they happen, but we can all agree that at some point in our lives, we have experienced some kind of freaky coincidence. Here are some more of the really strange and mind blowing ones.

Actors and actresses always go above and beyond the call of duty when filming a movie and there have been countless tales of many a crazy actor risking life and limb for the art of cinema. You just need to look no further than Tom Cruise’s death deifying antics on that Qatar skyscraper in Mission: Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol to see how far even the most comfortably richest of Hollywood talent will look the grim reaper dead in the eye for the sake of a scene. Often of course, this can lead to serious accidents during filming, which nevertheless makes for an entertaining read for us mere mortals to scoff at while living our own boring workaday lives, but obviously a worry for the people involved. While jealousy may be the real reason we take so much joy at the misfortune of the rich and famous, who doesn’t like finding out what really goes on behind the scenes that we don’t hear about with film-making? We admire enough actors and actresses for doing their own stunts and putting their body on the line when it all goes well, so why shouldn’t we see the proverbial bloopers? Here are six actors or actresses who have thankfully survived almost-fatal accidents during filming this year’s biggest films. In no particular order of severity, but all equally entertaining, I present to you danger, humour, and horror intertwined.

9 Strange Sports-Related Deaths

1  Raymond Chapman Killed by Spitball
Raymond Chapman, a shortstop for the Cleveland Naps and later the Indians, has the dubious distinction of being the only ballplayer to die of a game-related injury in the major leagues. On August 16, 1920, Chapman was hit by a pitch at the top of the 5th inning in a game with the New York Yankees. Back then, spitballs and other ornery tricks were quite common and the ball thrown by Carl Mays was reportedly very erratic and hard to see. It hit Chapman so hard, it sounded like the crack of a bat. Chapman froze momentarily before falling to the ground with blood pouring out his ear; he died early the next day. After that, umpires were required to immediately replace dirty balls, although the batting helmet didn't become mandatory until 1971.

On 10 November 1985 Villa Epecuen was flooded by water for no apparent reason. Now the water level is declining, yet only one person returned to this town - 81-year-old Pablo Novak who is now the sole resident of the town. Before the floods, the town was big tourist attraction. It had clean, fresh air, healing lakes, wonderful scenery and welcoming residents. It is all gone now, but if someone could provide finance to restore the town it may be possible to return it to its glory.

Top 10 Most Famous Shipwrecks

Original source : http://www.toptenz.net

Author : Jeff Danelek

While literally millions of ships of all shapes and sizes have been built over the centuries, only a handful have achieved anything approaching fame. Most of those that have done so, however, were warships or vessels that displayed such a degree of innovation that they were considered prototypes in the evolution of ships. Other ships, however, achieved notoriety, not through their accomplishments or because of their technological innovations, but through catastrophic failure. In fact, the sea beds are littered with examples of the power of both nature and the human propensity towards violence, miscalculation, and simple bad luck. Of course, only a few vessels that met a tragic fate are recalled by most people today, though their reasons for doing so are as varied as the types of ships themselves: Some became famous as vessels of war whose demise triggered a conflict or made such a major contribution to a conflict that it was remembered in its own right; others became famous because they carried huge fortunes in their holds when they went down or because of the huge loss of life that resulted from their sinking. A few even became famous because their loss was so unexpected and mysterious that they became the stuff of legends. Unfortunately, there are literally dozens of famous shipwrecks throughout history to choose from, making it difficult to narrow it down to just ten, but this is my best effort.

Nuclear power is often billed as the cleaner, more productive future of energy. In theory this claim holds true. However, the human dynamic dictates that accidents will happen. Since the generation of nuclear energy produces waste that can affect human populations and natural environments for centuries, this is a scary proposition. Nuclear devices have changed pop culture globally and irreversibly. Listed here are ten events that demonstrate the harmful potential of this harnessed energy source.

A former CIA and civilian pilot has sworn an affidavit, stating that no planes flew into the Twin Towers as it would have been physically impossible. John Lear, the son of Learjet inventor, Bill Lear, has given his expert evidence that it would have been physically impossible for Boeing 767s, like Flights AA11 and UA175 to have hit the Twin Towers on 9/11, particularly when flown by inexperienced pilots:
‘No Boeing 767 airliners hit the Twin Towers as fraudulently alleged by the government, media, NIST and its contractors’, he stated in the affidavit.

1. Woman Blames GPS After Driving Her Car Into A Sand Trap
Perhaps after spending too much time at the nineteenth hole, a woman in Northbridge, Massachusetts drove her car into a sand trap on a golf course. She was unable to extricate herself without going well over par. This was, of course, not her fault. Her car's malfunctioning GPS navigational system was to blame. Northbridge Police Officer Randy Lloyd wrote in his report that her GPS had told her to turn left. She stated that this left brought her into a "cornfield" and once she was in the "cornfield" she kept driving, trying to get out of her "cornfield." Life is tough sometimes.
