How 3D Animated Movies Are Made

Original source : http://www.mademan.com

You probably have a pretty good idea how traditional animation works: A guy sits at a desk, draws a series of pictures and voila: Steamboat Willie. But what about 3D animation, like the new Despicable Me 2? Turn out it’s a pretty labor-intensive process, but it’s still a lot easier than doing everything by hand. We spoke with Dan Warom, Crowd Supervisor at Scanline VFX and a major animation studio vet, about how Gru comes to life. Read and learn.
“A rig is essentially the muscles, skeleton and skin of a character,” says Warom. “Sometimes there are guys whose sole job is just to be the face animator.”

11 Heroic Comic Book Characters More Powerful Than Superman

Original source : http://whatculture.com

First things first; I’m a huge Superman fan and a huge fan of comics in general, so this is in no way an attempt to sully the character – it is merely an attempt to deal in facts and shed some light on a myth…
“What is that myth?” I hear you ask; All too often I see people saying “no one is more powerful than Superman” – and that simply isn’t true – so I’m going to point out a few characters of the heroic variety who would beat Superman (utilising consistent feats of power as actual evidence) in a straight up fight, if both characters were going all out to win, without any outside interference or extenuating circumstances (note; there are countless numbers of villains more powerful than him – Thanos, Surtur, Pre-Crisis Darkseid, Pre-Crisis Validus, Dormammu etc to name a few – but finding heroes who are more powerful than him is indeed a little bit more difficult).
I’m prepared for the fact that there will be a lot of disagreement from hardcore fans of the character who simply don’t like their favourite hero losing, but part of being a fan of the character is knowing everything about him or her – including their limitations – so do be open-minded please! On that note, using actual evidence from comic books i.e. mentioning actual ways in which said characters are more powerful than the man of steel by way of feats of power that they’ve actually demonstrated, here are eleven heroic comic book characters who are more powerful than Superman (in no particular order, as the power levels of these guys vary massively – they’re just all more powerful than Supes)…

10 Times Wolverine Died

Original source : http://whatculture.com

He’s the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn’t very nice. Wait, what are we talking about? We’re not sure, because Wolverine has gotten up to all sorts of nasty business in both his comic book and on-screen incarnations. He’s killed a lot of people, that’s for sure, and continues to do so. We reckon he has a bit of a sordid sexual history, concealed only by PG-13 ratings. The other thing Logan’s known for is being impossible to kill himself, despite the high number of people who’ve tried – probably a lot of the same people he eventually ends up sticking with his own infamous claws – and inevitably failed. Owing to a skeleton reinforced with a made-up metal and a healing factor that lets him recover from most wounds, Wolverine is all but indestructible.

Top 20 Worst Superhero Names

Original source : http://www.digitalbusstop.com

Sometimes comic book writers come up with a great character – the powers are all there, the backstory, the design – and then they go to name them. Now, I’m not talking about their real name, but their alter-ego. Sometimes all the amazing powers in the world don’t matter when you saddle a character with a terrible name. Sometimes they fix this for the character down the line, but often the character is stuck with this name for as long as they’re in print. Here are some of the best (worst) ones I could think of.

Fans of the Wolverine would know that he is a mutant who possesses animal-keen senses, enhanced physical capabilities, and a healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound, disease, or toxin at an accelerated rate. The healing factor also slows down his aging process, enabling him to live beyond a normal human lifespan. So, he's an immortal? He can never be killed? Well, there are some theories on how Wolverine can be killed and here are some of them...

10 Most Disturbing ‘Pokémon’

By andrew_dyce

'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'; a sentiment that no video game franchise embodies as succinctly as Pokemon. That shouldn't be taken as an insult, since even the people developing the series maintain that like any lasting sport or game, Pokemon doesn't need to change to stay relevant. Instead, the developers at Game Freak simply iterate upon each element of gameplay, introduce new creatures for players to collect, and let marketing take care of the rest. As the franchise closes in on twenty years - and prepares to add yet another Nintendo console to its resume - we thought we'd look back; not on the games or creatures that we most treasure, but the ones that keep us up at night.
Here are the 10 Most Disturbing Pokemon Facts.

The 10 Lamest Superheros

By Federico Lo Giudice
Superheroes are the defenders of the Earth in times of need, those people who are beyond regular humans and the embodiment of everything we hold dear, but even they go wrong sometimes. For whichever reasons, cultural, or on purpose, sometimes it’s not the bad guys who hurt society as a whole, but the heroes themselves. How, you ask? Oh, we don’t know… maybe by sucking so bad that readers can’t help but stop taking the industry seriously as a whole, or setting back social issues a couple decades.
“But Walyou!…” – might be thinking our dear readers – “you must be wrong! Superheroes are awesome and geeky, and they couldn’t possibly go wrong!!”. Fine, don’t believe us? Okay, see for yourselves. This is Walyou’s 10 Lamest Superheros list.

7 Avengers Too Lame For The Movies

Captain America officially opens Friday and word has it there’s a trailer for the Avengers at the end, which you may have seen online in all its poorly lit, pirated glory. While the movie promises to be the biggest damn thing in the history of comic book movies to date (and that includes the two kick ass Swamp Thing movies from the 80’s) there’s still some important decisions that have to go into making sure it doesn’t tank like so much Howard the Duck. And that means making sure a handful of Avengers are scheduled to be out of town during filming. Fact is, not everyone on the team’s roster is as cool as the Hulk or Iron Man, but they do make good movie trivia fodder. And no, we will not mention anyone from the Great Lakes Avengers, because those clowns don’t count.

Many fictional characters have tried to walk the superhero road. Some are awesome. And some... some are not. Here's 20 garboons who should have hung up the tights and called their therapists.

Wire Soldiers To Conquer The World

The technological frontiers have broadened their reach and landscape. Gone were the days when humans controlled machines and their attack mode. Soon the Wired Soldiers and other similar mutants are all set to rule the computer tables and workstations. However, the good news is that this might take more time than thought by the directors of Terminator series and Universal soldiers.
