January is over, people - which, for film buffs, means the good stuff (you know, releases you’d actually get out of your house and pay money to see) will soon start hitting theaters. The cinematic calendar for the next 11 months promises sex addicts, sexy vampires, sexy co-eds - not to mention the indies that made a splash earlier this month at Sundance and artfully concocted big-budget fare.

How 3D Animated Movies Are Made

Original source : http://www.mademan.com

You probably have a pretty good idea how traditional animation works: A guy sits at a desk, draws a series of pictures and voila: Steamboat Willie. But what about 3D animation, like the new Despicable Me 2? Turn out it’s a pretty labor-intensive process, but it’s still a lot easier than doing everything by hand. We spoke with Dan Warom, Crowd Supervisor at Scanline VFX and a major animation studio vet, about how Gru comes to life. Read and learn.
“A rig is essentially the muscles, skeleton and skin of a character,” says Warom. “Sometimes there are guys whose sole job is just to be the face animator.”

10 Good Movies Ruined By Bad Endings

Original source : http://screenrant.com

Whether writing a movie, TV series, novel, or any other form of storytelling, one fact rises above all: endings are hard. The sentiment is proven on a yearly basis, as countless films deliver an intriguing premise, compelling action, or powerful messages, only to fumble with the closing act. Sometimes, the film’s final impact can be so poorly executed, it leaves audiences wondering whether the film that preceded it was even worth the trouble. It’s rare that a film’s finale can be so poorly handled, it negates what the movie did right up to that point, but it’s just as unfortunate to realize that the characters, the conflict, and the plot in its entirety were all building to an ending that was doomed to fall short from the very start. Our list of 10 Good Movies Ruined By Terrible Endings shows that strong films can still succeed despite a flawed climax, but in our opinion, they would be even more beloved if their conclusions were just as flawless. Needless to say, SPOILERS abound, so read at your own risk.

10 Times Wolverine Died

He’s the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn’t very nice. Wait, what are we talking about? We’re not sure, because Wolverine has gotten up to all sorts of nasty business in both his comic book and on-screen incarnations. He’s killed a lot of people, that’s for sure, and continues to do so. We reckon he has a bit of a sordid sexual history, concealed only by PG-13 ratings. The other thing Logan’s known for is being impossible to kill himself, despite the high number of people who’ve tried – probably a lot of the same people he eventually ends up sticking with his own infamous claws – and inevitably failed. Owing to a skeleton reinforced with a made-up metal and a healing factor that lets him recover from most wounds, Wolverine is all but indestructible.

First of all, a quick disclaimer: I am not glamorizing nor glorifying weapons, violence, or related topics. Ok, now that that’s out of the way…we’ve all watched some action movie, TV show, or played a video game and thought that the hero (or villain) had a badass weapon. But what are the best of these fictional weapons? Well, here’s a list of some of the best of the best – the completely fake weapons we’ve all wished we could have at least once.

Top 10 Most Unworthy Oscar Winners

Obviously, the Academy Awards are incredibly selective (not to mention subjective) and the movie or actor you thought was the absolute best will more than likely not walk away with the big prize.  But sometimes there’s such an egregious error in judgment, such a crime against the art of filmmaking that you can’t help to raise your arms to the heavens and cry to those cinema snobs up in their ivory towers, “What were you thinking?!” Here are some of the Oscar winners we deem most unworthy. We’re not saying that these are bad films or performances, we’re just saying that given the competition, there were other candidates that were much more deserving of the prize.

7 Movies That Are Incredibly Hard To Watch

Original source : http://wegotthiscovered.com

I’ll go out on a limb and give a rough estimation that about 97% of movie buffs have come across at least one movie at some point in their lives that they just couldn’t watch from start to finish. Everyone has vastly different tastes in films, different things that make them tick and differing thresholds of tolerance for boredom, graphic violence and gore, downright stupidity and endless cliches. There are countless reasons why someone would decide to hit the stop button partway through a film. Filmmakers who are notorious for pushing the envelope are generally regarded as those who make the most disturbing of movies, with varying degrees of success. Some do succeed all the way and garner critical praise and lucrative financial gain, a la Quentin Tarantino. Others, while they may achieve a certain level of praise, do split people’s opinions straight down the middle about whether their films are artistic, or just plain torture porn.
