Nature is as amazing as it is surprising. There are tons of
species are living in the world, and many have yet still to be discovered. In those
species, some are common but sometimes, one race has extraordinary
characteristics like those extra-large species. Have you ever wondered what
some of the biggest animals found on land are?
The largest butterfly in the
world was found in Papua New
Guinea. The Queen Alexandra butterfly has a
wingspan that can be up to 1 foot (30 cm). The females are one third bigger
than male in this species. Unfortunately, the species is in danger due to the
expansion of human habitat.
2 The Chinese Giant Salamander
The Chinese Giant Salamander
is the largest living amphibian on Earth. The size of this species can grow up
to 1.8 meters long and weigh up to 30 kg. Nowadays, it rarely arrives to this
size but the average length is still around 1.15 meters. This species is also
in danger due to heavy harvesting and destruction of it’s habitat.
3 Goliath Frog
This giant frog can reach up to 3 feet when
it stretches and can weigh up to 3.2 kg. This frog eats mostly crabs and
another particularity is that they don’t have vocal sac. It lives in a small
areas of the rainforest, however; the pet trade, collecting of zoos and the
destruction of its habitats have endanger the species.
4 Biggest Snake
The biggest living snake is the green
anaconda. This semi-aquatic snake has an average of 15-17 feet long, and weighs
around 200 lbs. The biggest one has been measured at 28 feet and weight 550
lbs. However, scientists believe they have found fossils of a snake in the
Colombian forest. This monster called the Titanoboa, was believed to be around
40 feet.
5 The Biggest Domestic Cat
The biggest domesticated cat in
the world is an orange and white tabby cat. At two years old the cat weighted
39.1 pounds (18 kg) on the scale.
6 Goliath Bird-Eating Tarantula
This spider lives in the
rainforest in South America. This spider can
grow up to 1 foot (30 cm) in body length and 1 inch of legs. This spider is so
big that, as its name implies, it eats birds!! Luckily, the spider is not
deadly for humans. It can cause pain, nausea and seating but not death.
7 Large Flying Fox
This bat is the biggest one in the world.
Although not to worry, it is stictly a fruit eater. The wingspan of this bat is
around 6 feet. This bat is subject to an extensive hunt in Malaysia and
its numbers have dangerously declined.
8 World’s Biggest Dog
This english mastiff dog is named
Hercules. He was recorded at 282 pounds in the Guinness World Book Of Records.
9 Biggest Cow
The biggest cow in the world is called Big Cow
Chilli from Chard, Somerset.
This cow’s size is extremely large, she is 6 feet 6 inches tall and 1250 kg.
10 Flemish Rabbit
This breed of rabbit gets his name from
the Flemish area where it is found. This breed can weight up to 28 pounds which
is around 12 kg.
11 Giant Coconut Crab
This giant crab comes from hermit crab
family. This giant crab is the largest land-living anthropoid. It can not
longer live in the water and can live for up to forty years. It weighs
approximately 9 pounds.
12 Amazon Giant Centipede
This centipede live in the South
American Amazon. This carnivorous centipede goes out at night and hunts for
smaller victims like lizards and frogs. Its venom kills any victim almost
instantly. The Amazon giant centipede can grow up to 35 centimeters longs with
46 legs.
13 Giant African Snail
The biggest snail in the world was
found in Africa. It can grow up to 11.8 inches
(30 cm), and weighs a maximum 450 grams.
14 Chinese Pig
Chinese authority called up the Guinness Book
of World Records in order to weigh and size this pig. The pig died in February
2009, and it weighed 1984 pounds (900 kg), was 2.5 meters long and had a
waistline of 2.23 meters.
