The car owner, Han Nan, is VP of a wholesale lighting supplier. The sports car was bought from Japan in September 2010 with company funds. It was a used car. With tariff, it cost a total of three million yuan (US$450,000). On November 29, 2010, it experienced ignition problem and couldn’t start.
According to Han Nan, he sent the car to the official Lamborghini service in Qingdao for repair. But not only did they fail to fix the problem, they damaged the bumper and part of the chassis. Han Nan thinks that the repair shop does not qualify to repair a Lamborghini and caused unwarranted damage.
Bai Xuelei, manager at the Lamborghini Qingdao, said that because the company’s office in Qingdao is still being arranged, they referred Mr. Han to an auto shop that they trust.
“The car is a 2003 outdated Gallardo model,” Bai Xuelei said. It had scratches already. The bumper was faulty from the beginning. We filled in the report and asked the customer to sign it. However, on the second day, the owner brought seven to eight people with him and demanded to have a look at the report. On seeing it, he grabbed it away, and said all problems are caused by the repair shop. We kept communicating with the car owned, but he had many requests and was always changing his mind. So we didn’t agree on anything.”
So on March 15, World Consumer Rights Day, the Lambo owner hired a team of guys with sledgehammers to destroy the car in public.
Lamborghini China office issued an announcement that in the past three months, the company never tried to give up on the problems and was very proactive in responding to the car owner’s requests and making suggestions. They feel sorry that the owner didn’t accept any of them and instead destroyed the car.
In the announcement, Lamborghini China mentioned that the suggestions they made include changing the bumper for free, sending technicians from Beijing for an overall check.
