Karl Lagerfeld is not stranger to technology if we all think back to his pre-fall 2008 lightbulb shoe, which has undoubtedly inspired his footwear for the Chanel Couture fall 2011/12 show. The couture collection, debuted earlier this month at the fabulous
Grand Palais in Paris, centred on a night time theme. The show was,
rather unusually, held at 10pm and the Grand Palais was decorated black
with old fashioned street lamps and and twinkling stars.
The models strutted down the slightly sparkly catwalk in stunning
creations with black veils across smokey eyes. The appearance of feather
and lace lined boaters hats were a throw back to Coco’s time spent as a
milliner and the variations on the classic Chanel suit served as an ode
the trend she started back in her day.
The collection colours, deep blues, bright
purples, blacks and whites all mimic a summer nights sky. Contrasting
textures and sparkling fabrics created a dark yet magical feel.
Lagerfeld cleverly teamed these traditional cuts and styles with a very modern type of shoe – one that contained LED lights. These illuminated heels gave the show a very sci-fi twist in what
initially appeared to be a rather traditional Parisian setting. This
maybe a clue that Chanel looks to embrace technology and make it a
bigger part of the brand. Go for it Karl, fly the Fashionology flag!
