James Reynolds documents Death Row prisoners’ requests for their last meals before execution. The meals are depressing, to say the least, and not because it’s a person’s final meal before being executed, but because their choices reveal so much.
Some choose ice cream, some choose a pack of cigarettes, a single black olive?, or even a lonely donut. One would assume that a person would go with a gigantic steak or some such succulent meal; it is hard to figure out how a single black olive could make somebody happy but for the briefest of seconds.
