Smallest Chicken Egg In The World And Other Weird Eggs

Smallest Chicken Egg Ever And Even Stranger Eggs
Old MacDonald had a farm, E I E I O, and on his farm he had the chicken who laid the smallest egg in the world. The mini-egg is just 0.9 inches (2.5cm) long, its diameter is 0.79 inches (2cm) and weighs no more than 0.26oz (7.3g).

This is not the only strange egg in this amazing world, we’ve put together a collection of some of the most bizarre eggs in the world, so check them out right here.

Meet Big Bird, an amazing gray hen who is now getting a whole lot of attention all because of the fact that she is responsible for laying the tiniest egg in the world. And for her amazing offspring, her owner, Harry Evans immediately applied, in her name, for an honorary spot in the Guinness Book of Records for the world’s smallest chicken egg.

The hen got her name from the famed Sesame Street character, since she’s the biggest of nine chicks Mr. Evans keeps at his farm near Bakewell, Derbyshire. For one year since she was bought, she has laid perfectly normal eggs, until one morning, after the Easter celebrations in 2012, when her owner spotted the incredible mini-egg in her nest.

Did you ever think what the normal sizes of an egg are? Well, think no more, cause we have them right here for you. An average chicken egg is 5.7cm (2,5 inches) long, 4.4cm in diameter, and weighs approximately 2 ounces (57g). So now you can really comprehend how big the world’s smallest chicken egg really is.
Big Bird’s egg is 0.9 inches (2.5cm) long, with a diameter of 0.79 inches (2cm) and weighs mearly 0.26oz (7.3g)

Mr. Evens is waiting for the results of his application, and in the meantime, he’s keeping the tiny egg in the refrigerator safe guarded so that nothing spoils his soon-to-be record holding smallest chicken egg in the world.

Now let’s have a look at other really odd eggs:

1. Mermaid’s Purse
Now we know what you’re thinking… we promised you strange eggs and we’re showing you accessories, but hold that thought, a Mermaid’s Purse is not really a bag per say, but the egg capsule that surrounds the fertilized eggs of special types of sharks. Such bizarre eggs are composed of collagen protein strands and are deposited in pairs on the sea floor. After nine to twelve months, hatchlings break out and they start roaming the sea.

2. Tea Egg
Now, we know this looks weird, but it’s actually a delicacy… it’s an egg, boiled in tea, served in China as snacks.

3. Century Egg
This has to be one of the strangest eggs you’ve seen… it’s called a Century Egg. What’s that you ask? Well century eggs or pidan is a Chinese delicacy made of preserved duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months.
Weird eggs, huh?
