Ripley’s 10 Strangest Stories of 2010

Earlier in the year, the winners of the DAFTAS awards were announced. The DAFTAS give recognition to some of the strangest, stupidest, and most bizarre stories of 2010. But the DAFTAS aren’t the only authority on the weird. Here are the top 10 strangest stories from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not.

Bearded Woman Finds Son
Vivian Wheeler has werewolf syndrome, or hypertrichosis, which makes her grow hair all over her body. Vivian is also a hermaphrodite, and was told that she couldn’t have children. But Vivian Wheeler gave birth when she was 29 to a son. The boy was taken from her and put up for adoption by her boyfriend. Vivian started searching for her son, and they were finally re-united this year.

Ripley the Dog
When police found a big pile of fur in a ditch in Louisiana, they were shocked to find out that beneath all the hair was a dog. The police named the dog Ripley because, “Believe it or not, there’s a dog under there.”

Longest High School Football Game Ever
It took 12 overtimes for Jacksonville to beat Nacogdoches 84-81. The game lasted more than five hours, and ended at around 1 in the morning.

Spray-on Clothes
If you like your clothes to be skin tight, check out clothes in a can. These clothes are sprayed onto the body, but once the fabric is set, it can be taken off, washed, and worn again.

Deep Fried Beer
Beer ravioli? Only in Texas could they find a way to deep fry a liquid. Mark Zable invented Deep Fried Beer at the Texas State Fair this year.

Dead Body in a Car for 10 Months
A woman in California drove around with a dead body in her car for 10 months. The woman had befriended a homeless woman whom she let sleep in her car. When the woman died, the driver didn’t know what to do. So she put a box of baking soda in the car to cancel out the smell, and drove around like nothing was wrong.

Man Shot in Head Finds out 5 Years Later
5-years ago, a man living in Germany was shot in the head at a New Year’s Eve Party. Since the man was very drunk at the time, he either didn’t feel it or didn’t remember it in the morning. After feeling a bump on his head this year, he had doctors remove the .22 caliber bullet.

Dog Chews off Man’s Toe
A small terrier chewed off the toe of his 48-year-old owner. But instead of getting yelled at, Kiko the dog was given credit for saving the man’s life. When Kiko’s owner passed out in a drunken daze, the terrier went to work on his toe which was badly infected with Type 2 Diabetes. Once the toe was gone, the terrier left the rest of the foot alone.

Woman Tries to be the Fattest
Donna Simpson wanted to be special. At 42 and already overweight, the mother of two decided that she would become the world’s heaviest living woman. Donna Simpson is trying to reach a weight of 1000 pounds, but still has about 400 pounds to go. So how does Donna pay for her $750 grocery bill? She runs supersizedbombshells.com, where people can pay to watch her eat.

Cat Predicts Death
Oscar is a special cat. He lives at a nursing center in Rhode Island, and has a soft spot for people who are nearing their death. Oscar keeps to himself until he suspects someone is about to die. When he senses someone is about to die he’ll cuddle with them until they pass. So far, Oscar has predicted more than 50 deaths.
