The Looping Festine Lente Bridge In Sarajevo

Adnan Alagic, Amila Hrustic and Bojan Kanlic are the names of three young designers who have designed the new pedestrian bridge over the Miljacka River in Sarajevo. The basic idea of the bridge is the union of the secular and spiritual and to establish a balance between left and right side. The Festina Lente (lat. hurry slowly) is the result of a 2007 competition. Crossing the bridge is a unique experience because of it’s specific layout and views that we encounter when going through the gate (closed part of the bridge) preparing us to enter into another dimension, and awakes spirituality.

Technological solutions and modern design of the bridge become the brand of Sarajevo. The basis of the project, the idea of creating a balance between the left and right banks of the river, whilst establishing temporal and spiritual union between the two. The “knot” is a bridge port, symbolic, which predisposes to enter another spiritual dimension. Bridge construction is steel with aluminum trim and glass fence. Span is 38 meters. The bridge create a true “genius loci”appropriate to the area in front of the temple as the Academy of Fine Arts. Former church today Academy of Fine Arts was built in time of the Viennese secession.
