5. Feral pigs - Most places
Posted : July 2009
Author :
Pigs were introduced in most regions of the world through livestock farming.
All well and good, but a lot of them got out, and they eat like, well, pigs.
They tear up huge chunks of land rooting around for food, which screws up local
plants and hurts the native species that rely on the plants for food. They also
love farmed cropland, causing millions of dollars of damage a year. In some
places, they eat native species’ eggs or destroy their habitat with their
rooting. On Santiago
Island, for example, they
dramatically reduced sea turtle and tortoise numbers by eating their eggs.

such thing as an unsafe commercial airport"), some hubs are far more
hazardous than others.

"Nature red in tooth and claw", said Alfred Lord
Tennyson. For, out there in the vast and unforgiving expanses of the wild, life
is simply currency to be circulated amongst its participants. Yet, the natural
order does not always entail the ultimate triumph of size, speed and muscle
power. In fact, over the billion years of Earth's evolution, it is the the
smaller creatures that have somehow managed to scrape through and survive,
while the gigantic and magnificent are often interred and ultimately converted
into fossil fuel, ironically, to power modern human ambitions. One of the
techniques that have held the following often overlooked survivors and hunters
in good stead is the ability to become one with its surroundings. The
fascinating and often deadly trick of camouflage is one of Nature's most
perfect genetic ornamentations, and these 20 creatures have mastered the art.

The thought of going to prison is enough to scare the living
daylights out of anyone, especially with the horror stories that you can read
in newspapers and books and those you see on TV. Stabbings, murders, violence, gang rape and any number of
other horrors are all widely broadcast by people that have spent time on the
inside. Of course, they’re not your run of the mill prison stories because you
don’t tend to hear much about the ones that don’t see any action from one year
to the next, but the same names do keep coming up time and time again. Certain prisons, both old and new, are notorious for
violence and some easily out perform others in the horror stories stakes. The
10 worst prisons in the world are listed below. Read ‘em and weep!

5. RMS Titanic
Death Toll: 1,517
RMS Titanic was an Olympic-class passenger liner owned by
the White Star Line and built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland.
On the night of 14 April 1912, during her maiden voyage, Titanic struck an
iceberg, and sank two hours and forty minutes later, early on 15 April 1912. At
the time of her launching in 1912, she was the largest passenger steamship in
the world. The sinking resulted in the deaths of 1,517 people, ranking it as
one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters in history and by far the most
infamous. The Titanic used some of the most advanced technology available at
the time and was popularly believed to be “unsinkable” – indeed, in a 1910
White Star Line brochure advertising the Titanic; it was claimed that she was
“designed to be unsinkable”. It was a great shock to many that despite the
advanced technology and experienced crew; the Titanic still sank with a great loss
of life. The media frenzy about Titanic’s famous victims, the legends about
what happened on board the ship, the resulting changes to maritime law, and the
discovery of the wreck in 1985 by a team led by Robert Ballard have made
Titanic persistently famous in the years since.
