The BlackBerry Empathy Concept

We have seen BlackBerry concept designs before, but this concept may take away our need for BBM emoticons, forever. The Empathy pairs with a biometrics ring to send the user's emothional data to the crystal like device. The concept device was designed by Kiki Tang and Daniel Yoon for a RIM sponsored project at the Art Center College of Design. One of the designers describes the interface as follows:

A Huge Mushroom

This fungus is grown in the UK and it hardly fits into the mushroom picker's basket. For size, it has a diameter of 45 centimeters and weighs about 2.5 pounds. That’s a godsend for the person who found it.

Illegal Baby Names

This week the Pope declared war on parents naming babies after celebrities, fruit or popular sports cars. In an address to parents, the ever-progressive pontiff pleaded with worshipers to 'give your children names that are in the Christian calendar'. So Apple, Brooklyn and Ferrari are out, Francisco and Giulia are in. But Benedict's not the only authority figure to stamp down on one of the sillier by-products of celebrity culture. The following names have all been banned around the world for reasons of taste, decency or just plain daftness.

Car Transformation

It was a 1987 Pontiac Fiero that cost $60 and it was supposed to be converted into a Lamborghini Reventon. I have no idea what it will look like at the end, because it’s not ready yet. A real Lamborghini Reventon is the one in the last photo.

Amazing Food Art

Beautiful sculptures made out of everyday food items, these artists have some serious talent.

World's Most Disgusting Food

We all love to see something weird, odd, and of course the bizarre sometimes. I think that everyone loves top ten lists, so here you have it lists of the wild, weird, and even sometimes the gross. As I was preparing to write this article today, I got a bit hungry and thought why not see what others eat. I typed in Weird Food and here is just a sampling of some of the foods that came up. These are the top ten on the grossness meter for us….

Pizza, anyone?
Words cannot express my horror on this one…

Woman Fakes Own Kidnapping

A few months back a study on a dating website revealed Spanish women to be the best at the art of flirting while American women ranked second to last. Well, Spanish women are back in the news once again and this time they get the distinct honor of being the craziest kind of spouse you could hope for.
(Yes, I am basing this sweeping generalization on one solitary woman in Spain.)

Aftermath Of The Chernobyl Disaster

The disaster occurred on 26th April 1986, a nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western USSR and Europe. It is considered the worst nuclear power plant accident in history, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster). The battle to contain the contamination and avert a greater catastrophe ultimately involved over 500,000 workers and cost an estimated 18 billion rubles, crippling the Soviet economy. The following photos show what's left of Chernobyl at present.

Cars That Fizzled In 2011 (US)

2011 has had some notable high-profile flops: American Airlines, Coke's white can, numerous Republican presidential candidates, the Boston Red Sox. More than a few automakers can add their names to the list. In a year when U.S. car sales staged a modest recovery, a number of nameplates with high expectations wilted in the showroom. One of them gets the most ignominious distinction of being a bust — we'll get to that, but first see the slideshow of ten other cars worthy of dishonorable mention.

Underclothes To Protest TSA X-Ray Scanners

If you don’t like the idea of the introduction of TSA X-ray scanners in airports, you can protest with these underwear and undershirts with 4th Amendment metallic ink-prints.

Epic Exam Answers

Really funny stuff!! And sometimes it’s hard to say who is more creative – students or teachers :)) Hope you like this, I like it so much :) Still laughing. Enjoy :)

Octopus Walking On Land

It’s not everyday that you get to see an octopus in a river… but then again, what’s weirder: an octopus in a river, or an octopus going out of the river and starting to walk on the land, with absolutely no water to assure oxygen for it? This little critter literally walked out of its natural environment, but even hough this seems surprising, you should know that these creatures are actually very smart. Octopuses in captivity actually escape their watery prisons with alarmingly frequency. They would let themselves caught on purpose and wait for the perfect timing to escape, thus being found on floors, or next to the book shelves or other weird places, where the last thing you’d expect to see is an octopus. Luckily, this family managed to catch the whole thing on tape.

The ANA Flight NH140 Incident

A Japanese airline says one of its jets nose-dived and rolled almost upside down on September 6, 2011 because the co-pilot hit the wrong controls while trying to open the cockpit door so the captain could return from a restroom break.

Two flight attendants were slightly hurt and four passengers got airsick when the All Nippon Airways Boeing 737-700 with 117 people aboard descended sharply, veered off course and went belly up over the Pacific on its way from southern Japan to Tokyo on September 6.

Who Is Mr. Bean?

Today I found out Rowan Atkinson, the guy who played “Mr. Bean”, has a master’s degree in electrical engineering.

Atkinson originally received an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering (EE) at Newcastle University before enrolling in an EE master’s program at The Queen’s College Oxford in 1975. While working towards this degree, he also pursued acting on the side with a variety of clubs, including the Oxford University Dramatic Society, the Oxford Revue and the Experimental Theatre Club.

Increase The Life Of Your Shaver Razor Blade Cartridges

Today I found out how to drastically increase the life of your shaver razor blades, such as Gillette or Schick Brand razors. This trick is incredibly simple and just as incredibly effective. It will also save you a nice chunk of change over time and make all your dreams come true…

For instance, Gillette Fusion Brand razor cartridge sets typically will run you about $27 per set of 12, which will typically only last you a few months and less if you actually go by their expiration “strip” in determining when the cartridge needs replaced. With the below method, I have now gone about eight months using the exact same cartridge and the blades on the cartridge are as sharp as when I first popped the cartridge on.

Wire Soldiers To Conquer The World

The technological frontiers have broadened their reach and landscape. Gone were the days when humans controlled machines and their attack mode. Soon the Wired Soldiers and other similar mutants are all set to rule the computer tables and workstations. However, the good news is that this might take more time than thought by the directors of Terminator series and Universal soldiers.

They Really Need A Dentist

Except we use them for chewing food, teeth adorn the beautiful smile. Dazzling white pearls sparkle while listening to a good joke. However, teeth in these photos are definitely contributing to making the face ugly, so it might be better off not to joke about it; until they visit the dentist. :)

Inventors Killed By Their Own Invention

This is a collection of inventors whose deaths were in some manner caused by or related to a product, process, procedure, or other innovation that they invented or designed. A few of these are somewhat bizarre.....

1) Franz Reichelt
Reichelt announced to the press in early February 1912 that he had finally received permission to conduct an experiment from the Eiffel Tower to prove the value of his invention, the “parachute suit”. On Sunday, February 4, at 7 am, he arrived at the tower by car with two friends. The news footage of his jump shows him modelling his invention in its folded form. The suit did not restrict the wearer's movements when the parachute was packed, and Le Petit Parisien described the method of deploying the parachute as being as simple as extending the arms out to form a cross with the body. After adjusting his apparatus with the assistance of his friends and checking the wind direction by throwing a piece of paper taken from a small book, he placed one foot on the guardrail, hesitated for about forty seconds, then leapt outwards. His parachute, which had seemed to be only half-open, folded around him almost immediately and he plummeted for a few seconds before crashing to his death.

10 Poorest Countries Of The World

The level of economy in countries around the globe is not even. It is somewhere very high and somewhere very low. GDP, literacy rate and employment rate are several parameters of a country to determine the level of its economy. According to a report of the United Nations, hunger causes the death of about 25,000 people everyday. Unfortunately, the number of children is greater than that of adults. Consider several facts of income disparity between rich and poor nations to measure the cleavage between the haves and the haves not. The combined income of the world’s richest individuals leaves far behind that of the poorest 416 million. 982 million out of 4.8 billion people in the developing world live on $1 a day. Another 2.5 billion live on below $2 a day. 40% of the poorest population made up 5% of world income while 20% of the richest population made up 75% of global income in 2005.

A country with a GDP per capita of $765 dollars or less is defined as a low-income or poor country. You may wonder why poor countries remain poor. Some interrelated factors like geography, industrialization, colonialism, education, resources, infrastructure, overpopulation, investment, government and debt make poor countries remain the heavy foot of poverty.

Look into the fragile features of the ten poorest countries of the world.

Lunar Eclipse

December 21, 2010 Lunar Eclipse by Jiyang Chen
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth so that the Earth blocks the Sun's rays from striking the Moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon's location relative to its orbital nodes. The most recent total lunar eclipse occurred on December 10, 2011. The previous total lunar eclipse occurred on June 15, 2011; The recent eclipse was visible from all of Asia and Australia, seen as rising over Europe and setting over Northwest North America. The last to previous total lunar eclipse occurred on December 21, 2010, at 08:17 UTC.

Air Attacks That Shook The World

Carpet bombing during WWII
Maintaining air superiority has been one of the cornerstones of every major war that has waged ever since the invention of the airplane; be it the classic World War I dog fights or the atomic bombings in 1945 to the more recent usage of droids in America’s war on terror. However if it is organized missions and calculated air strikes that we’re talking about, then it mostly begins post World War I. This list picks up ten such military aircraft missions that were instrumental in shaping world history, and politics.
“Air power may end war, or end civilization” – Winston Churchill, 1933

It Is Not Possible To Swallow Your Tongue

Contrary to popular belief, it is not possible to swallow your tongue. Well, unless of course if you cut it off and then swallowed it… In any event, the tongue is rooted to the floor of the mouth by the lingual frenulum. This makes getting the tongue far enough back in the throat to actually swallow it and get it stuck impossible.

World's Most Expensive Car Model

What a sports car model can be worth, perhaps the highest you may guess is tens of thousands, but in this world there are always unexpected things. A German engineer named Robert Gulpen who specializes in making car models from precious materials spent 500 hours to make a 1:8 scale model of Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 and the materials alone cost $2.7 million: precious gemstones embedded, the body, doors and hood are carbon fiber with threads of solid gold and the rims and interior are gold and platinum, and so on. It obviously become the world’s most expensive model and will be auctioned at Sotheby’s, starting at 3.5 million euros, or about $4.8 million!

Better Be Thin In Japan

With real estate at a premium in Japan, builders have to be creative to maximize any space they can get. So they build things very narrow and just hope no fatties show up. Take a look at a few examples here:

Microwaving Water - Warning!

A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before). I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he wanted to bring the water to a boil. When the timer shut the oven off, he removed the cup from the oven. As he looked into the cup, he noted that the water was not boiling, but suddenly the water in the cup 'blew up' into his face.
